The 7 Pillars Of Self-Care
August 13, 2023
In today’s busy, overworked, and stressful lifestyle, the importance of self-care has become more clear than ever before. But as opposed to what you might think, good and meaningful self-care is about more than just pampering and indulgence: it’s an all-encompassing holistic approach that nurtures our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Let’s talk about the seven pillars of self-care so that you can pursue a more balanced and fulfilling self-care routine.
-
Emotional: Emotional self-care focuses on understanding and managing our emotions effectively. This can include working on building healthy coping strategies and finding healthy ways to manage stress, which studies have found can have enormous impacts on your overall sense of well-being. [1]
-
Mental: On a similar note, mental self-care means taking care of your mental health. Practice mental self-care by incorporating mindfulness exercises into your daily routine, taking frequent breaks from the stress of the daily grind, and stimulating your mind by learning new skills and getting creative.
-
Spiritual: Your spiritual self-care should involve connecting with your inner self and nurturing your spirituality — whatever that looks like for you. Whether you seek this by praying, meditation, or practicing gratitude, nurturing your spiritual self-care can help you embrace a sense of deeper meaning and purpose.
-
Physical: Engaging in physical self-care means taking care of your body and giving it all of the tools it needs not just to be healthy, but to thrive. Invest in yourself by finding feel-good ways to increase your movement, eat a healthy and whole-food diet, and take supplements when necessary. We also recommend coming into our office for an hour of relaxation and replenish with our popular Vitamin C IV.
-
Social: Your support system is one of the best tools that you have, so make the most out of it! Reach out to your friends and loved ones, carve out ample amounts of time to be with your support system, and enjoy how good it feels to make time for the people in your life who mean the most to you.
-
Environmental: The environment that you are in day after day can play a huge role in your wellness, so it’s well worth focusing some attention here as part of your self-care routine! Take some time to reset and recenter by cleaning up the clutter around your home, perhaps treating yourself to some goodies in your home that leave you feeling more centered, organized, and comfortable. Taking time to spend out in nature is also a great self-care option for giving yourself a boost. [2]
- Recreational: Finally, self-care also means taking the time to do the things that you really enjoy doing! Make time for all of your hobbies, whether it’s participating in a favorite sport or indulging in your creative side. Bonus points: engaging in these self-care practices have been found to be associated with healthier physical and mental health! [3]
Self-care is a multifaceted practice that, when pursued in balance, can leave you feeling renewed, re-centered, and, ultimately, like a better version of yourself.
